good people

the way i figure it, the world can always use more good people.  well, folks….this young man is no short of that.  having just completed his eagle scout honor (quite the accomplishment!), he is definitely setting out to be quite the role model.  and given his amazing eyes and lashes (ya know, the kind all us ladies pay good money to try to produce) paired with his killer smile, he’s surely not hurting in the looks department either.  congrats, trevor, on this well deserved honor!

just when we were becoming friends

this is our neighbor.  he’s just a couple months older than coen.  now that these boys are slowly moving out of the twos and towards the threes, they are becoming friends.  basically, a little more interactive play verses the ‘i could care less if anyone else even exists’ mentality.  it’s been pretty amusing watching it all play out.  you know the whole ‘my bat’s bigger than your bat’ thing.  enough boys.  even little bats can hurt when you use them on one another.  sadly, though, we just found out a few weeks ago that they are moving out of state.  and taking the bat with them 😉

we’re  sure gonna miss that big ole smile.

class of 2024

i had the opportunity to photograph my daughter’s preschool class the other day .  the teacher wanted me to come and talk a little about my job as a photographer and show them the equiptment i use.  so, i decided it would also be fun to take each child’s picture and present it to them on the last day of school.  all the kids participated wonderfully and gave me some killer smiles.  maybe i’ll get lucky enough to take their photos again one day…say about 11-12 years??

i also managed to get a quick shot of (most of) them during their daily ‘circle time’. the two little boys leaning in just to the right of center wanted to be REALLY sure they were in the picture.

obviously, they slept through my lesson on wide angle lenses =)

missed by a millimeter

it’s no secret, amongst photographers anyway, that shooting wide open can produce some AMAZING photos.  unfortunately  it’s often the hardest style of shooting, as your focus (and the camera’s) needs to be spot on.  meaning even the slighest little movement, by photographer OR subject, can throw the whole shot off.  this is why you often hear photographers say they are happy if 10-20% of the shoots photos are 5 star photos.  yes, another little secret let out of the bag.  there’s a reason you don’t get to see all 200 of the photos we shoot of you.  not because we don’t want you to or that we’re too lazy to edit.  no, it’s likely because something in the photo just wasn’t right, and often that something is focus.  especially if you like tack sharp.  which i do.

this brings me to the following photo.  i love it too much to discard because of focus issues.  but it still bothers me.  i love the pose. the hair. the smile. the simple emotion.  but not the focus.  where was it suppose to be?  the eyes, of coarse.  where did it land?  oh, just a tad behind. (dang that jean jacket is sharp!)  whose fault was is?  well….since neither iris nor her mom like to take the blame, we’ll just chalk this one up to the camera 😉

just to be clear….these are the eyes i was going for.  changes the entire look of the photo, right?   i just could’ve done without the ‘are we done yet’ look.

stay focused!

evie skye

hard to believe this little beauty is going to be seven months old coming up here in a few days.

she’s really started to clap a lot which you can get a hint of in the picture.  thankfully she’s not camera shy.  well, yet anyway.  let’s wait until she gets a few more teeth as it will make bribery a little easier 😉

jill, meet evie. evie, meet jill.

well, santa didn’t forget about me after all.  though i didn’t get the lens i was hoping for, i did get a special little something, or someone.  see her name is jill.  santa must have thought i was getting a little lonely, staying at home these days?  anyway, i really really like her and can see us having a very long relationship.  that being said, i thought i’d introduce her to the family, one by one, starting with evie.  i think she kinda likes her.  i may just have to share.

my son, on canvas ♥ la vista childrens photographer

i am SO excited to be ordering my first canvas print shortly.  subject = my son.  since he doesn’t have to share a room like his sisters, i’m able to complete his decor much sooner and thus, order one of the last items on my list.  i have always known i wanted large single canvases of all my children for their rooms.  that and a huge family one down the road.  before that can be accomplished, however, i need to make sure everyone can sit still momentarily without resorting to shackles.  they don’t make for a very good picture 😉

anyway, this is the picture i chose of sir coen.  isn’t his smile just the cutest??
