Oudoor shoots:
The best times to shoot are in the first couple hours of sun up and the last couple hours of sun down. Since I only use available natural lighting, these are the times that the lighting is at it’s finest…don’t blame me, talk to mother nature =) Hence, I will recommend picking one of these times to schedule our shoot. If for some reason we need to schedule a shoot outside of these timeframes, I ask that the location site have plenty of available shade.
Indoor shoots:
A necessity for good inside shoot is LOTS of window light, preferably indirect. Timing isn’t as rigid as for outside shoots, though mid-mornings and later afternoons usually work well.
Preparations:
I want your shoot to be as relaxed as possible so that the most natural, story-telling photos can be captured. I encourage you to round up any ‘props’ that you think may help illustrate this story being it a generational piece of furniture, and heirloom blanket, that special stuffed animal, antique costume jewelry, the family pet……basically NOTHING is off limits. As for what to wear, I recommend bright bold colors/stripes/dots… and layering is great! Additionally, fun hats/scarves/funky shoes and long beaded necklaces/dangly earring also work well. Sometimes the best advice is to not be too matchy-match! In fact, believe it or not, our children sometimes pick out some of the best outfits for the camera..at least I know mine does…NOTHING she picks out matches. You’re also more that welcome to bring several outfits/accessories to the shoot and we can decide from there.
As for newborns, it’s best to shoot them with NO clothes and within the first 10 days of birth
Day of the shoot:
I will meet you at the location of your choice and your shoot will last approximately 1-1 1/2 hours, double the time for newborns to account for nursing/calming/posing/diaper changes..etc.
